Anti-inflammatory effect neurotransmitter effects

The complex neural network of the lung has both pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory activities. These activities are not simply related to the specific neurotransmitter in question. Indeed, as detailed above, each of the major classes of pulmonary neurotransmitter can have either effect, although the predominant role of substance P and NkA is prophlogistic and that of VIP is homeostatic. The predominant role of NO is not clear at this time.
