Anonymous instance

If each initialization is for a newly created identity, it is unrealistic to assume a particular access point for each future identity. For instance, a person will have only one device, which can be connected to an anonymous broadcast channel. Each time she wants an initialization for a newly created identity, she behaves in exactly the same way. Hence she should have a special access point just for initialization, and each initialization should yield a new access point, which handles the newly created identity. (The new access point should appear in the same environment where the access point used in the initialization is, so that the same user has access to it, for instance physically or with a password. However, this cannot be represented formally in the current model.) Hence the following events happen at the interface ... 

Of course, there is no evidence that Crosse, Tillyard, or any of their colleagues were concerned with Aristotle s concept of substance or with van Helmont s ideas on fermentation, but they do remind us that Boyle, Willis, and their academic colleagues were not the only men in Oxford who knew a retort from a bolthead. It would also have meant that a chemically literate community was routinely present in the city, whose members could not only supply necessary materials to the scientists, but also offer practical advice, and even recommend likely boys or men to act as laboratory assistants. One would, for instance, like to know the name and background of the anonymous pumper whom Boyle employed to assist him and Hooke in their groundbreaking air-pump experiments at Deep Hall in 1659. One presumes that he would have been the technician who operated the airpump, thereby leaving Boyle and Hooke free to observe what was happening to the experiment set up in the glass receiver. 

Cases of toxicity have been reported in persons consuming pennyroyal essential oil (Anderson et al. 1996 Anonymous 1978 Macht 1913 Vallance 1955). Death was reported after consumption of as little as 15.0 ml (1/2 oz) of the oil and, in one instance, following consumption of an alcohol extract of pennyroyal over a 2-week period. Symptoms of toxicity ranged from nausea, dizziness, and dilation of pupils to respiratory depression, generalized seizures, and coma (Anderson et al. 1996). 

A dynamic safety culture recognizes these near-miss incidents as warnings as well as opportunities, and encourages employees to report them so that action can be taken on the warnings before they recur, perhaps with disastrous results. Not only will an organization be addressing what are in many instances accident precursors, but it will also create a communication network from employees directly to the chief executive officer. This communication channel, in many cases anonymous, is one of the key factors in forging a positive safety culture. 

Other ascending auctions that do not fit neatly into our division between primal-dual and lagrangean have also been proposed. Wurman and Wellman [68] propose an iterative auction that allows bids on subsets but uses anonymous, non-linear prices to direct the auction. Bidders submit bids on bundles and using these bids, an instance of CAPl is formulated and solved. Then, another program is solved to impute prices to the bundles allocated that will satisfy a complementary slackness condition. In the next round, bidders must submit a bid that is at least as large as the imputed price of the bundles.
