Annex B - Operator action as an Independent Protection Layer (IPL) 

NOTE - Annex B is referenced in the foiiowing Clause 4.2, Clause 4.3, Clause 4.4, Annex K.3.3.1, Annex N.9.2, Annex 9.3, and Annex P.2. 

The purpose of this Annex is to provide guidance for the design and limits of risk reduction that can be claimed where an operator, as a result of an alarm, takes action on the process to achieve a safe state or maintain safe operation. 

NOTE 1 Refer to ANSI/ISA-84.00.01-2004-1, Clause 8.2.1, for requirements on hazard and risk analysis.
