Anhydrous HF solutions

The existence of diamagnetic salts of AgF was first reported in 1957 (26), butHttle was known about their properties. In 1988 (27) it was claimed that AgF3 was prepared by a reaction of Ag metal and O2F2 iu CIF. Silver trifluoride [91899-63-7], AgF, has since been prepared (28) from anhydrous HF solutions of AgF 4 salts by addition of BF, PF, or AsF. ... 

The compound tends to dissociate into AUF3 and, when treated with Xe 2 in anhydrous HF solution below room temperature, yields yellow-orange crystals of the complex [Xe2F3][AuFfi] ... 

Deep pink polycrystalline solid Rup4 has been prepared by treatment of AsFs with [Ru(F)g] in anhydrous HF solution." Recent work on etching of silicon in anhydrous HF solutions has shown that silicon is dissolved with a dissolution valence of 4 and with no hydrogen formation [111]. This result also shows that OH groups are an essential component of the etching reaction in aqueous solutions. 

A potentiometric titration of PHJ with AgF in a basic anhydrous HF solution showed an initial uptake of Ag+ with an end point at [Ag]/[P] = 0.5 (formation of Ag(PH3)J) followed by a further uptake of Ag+ forming AgPHJ. The complex-formation constants for the stepwise coordination were derived [63]. 

If the reaction of SbFg with an excess of N2F4 ( 1 atm) is carried out in anhydrous HF solution at room temperature, the salt N2F3SbFe is obtained [11, 12]. 

The NMR spectrum of N2F3 AsFg in anhydrous HF solution at room temperature exhibits two signals at 6(F2N) = 75.9 ppm upfield and 6(FN) = -26.0 ppm downfield from liquid CD3NO2 [16]. Only one signal at -22 ppm downfield from NO3 (external 4.5 M NH4NO3 in 3M HCl) was reported for N2F3ASF6 in anhydrous HF solution at 25°C [17]. 

The Raman spectrum of the C10F2 cation in anhydrous HF solution shows that the cation has Cs S unmetry (pyramidal) as the HF2 or BF4 salts, but C2V...
