Angstrom, Anders Jonas

Anders Jonas Angstrom was one of the founders of the science of spectroscopy. In the 1860s, he found hydrogen and other elements in the spectrum of the sun. A non-SI unit of length equal to 0.1 nm is named for him. [Pg.231]

Angstrom unit The unit of length commonly used in reporting the results of crystal structure analyses. 1 A = 10 cm. It is named after Anders Jonas Angstrom, a spectroscopist from Upsala, Sweden. [Pg.24]

The unit of length used in describing molecules and crystals is the Angstrom (symbol A), named in honor of the Swedish physicist Anders Jonas Angstrom (1814-1874). One centimeter is 100,000,000 A, and one inch is about 254,000,000 A. [Pg.14]

Angstrdm, Anders Jonas (1814-74) Swedish astronomer and physicist who became professor of physics at the U niversity of Uppsala from 1858 until his death. He worked mainly with emission spectra, demonstrating the presence of hydrogen in the sun. He also worked out the wavelengths of Fraunhofer lines. Since 1905 spectral wavelengths have been expressed in angstroms. [Pg.42]

The unit Angstrom is named after the Swedish physicist Anders Jonas Angstrom (l8l4-74). In Swedish, the letter A is always written A. In English, the circle over the A is often omitted. [Pg.33]

Just 1 year after the discovery of rubidium, in 1862, Anders Jonas Angstrom (1814-1874) used the technique of thermonuclear fusion, i.e., observation of the... [Pg.102]
