ARNE ANDERSEN is Privatdozent at the Technical University of Darmstadt. He took his doctorate in social history and the history of labour movement. Subsequently he turned to environmental history. For over ten years he has been working in this field, and is a pioneer of this new historical sub-discipline in Germany.
