Porphyrins analytical chromatography

In terms of chromatography, the first individual credited with the use of supercritical fluids as the mobile phase is Ernst Klesper when in 1962 he reported on the separation of metal porphyrins using dense-gas chromatography (GC) or SFC [3]. But it was not until the 1980s that the analytical community took hold of the abilities and advantages of the technique with the advent of several commercial instrumentation ventures. [Pg.566]

As indicated in our earlier article, the direct polymerization of monopyrroles to porphyrins is of little synthetic value as far as Ae unsymmetrical natural pigments are concerned. However, this might provide a feasible approach at l( ast to the copro- and uroporphyrins if sufficiently sophisticated methods could be developed for their chromatographic separation on a preparative basis. This has already been achieved analytically by high performance liquid chromatography (hplc). ... [Pg.244]

Burnham and Kost (1988) noted that TLC of porphyrins is a useful teeh-nique with silica gel, polyamide (nylon), and talc often serving as the sorbents. With slight variations of the solvent systems, analytical TLC of porphyrins can often be converted to thick-layer or preparative-layer chromatography. Burnham and Kost (1988) provided numerous tables for the TLC separation of free acid porphyrins, porphyrin esters, and metalloporphyrins. [Pg.354]
