Semi-automatic reaction analysis

The on-line measurement of reducing capacity can be performed with either a single or a series of electrochemical detectors, and linear correlations have been demonstrated between total antioxidative activities determined by the electrochemical detection and those determined by DPPH- reduction or by the ORAC assay (Guo et al, 1997 Peyrat-Maillard et al, 2000). The reducing capacity must also be quantified by post-column reactions, either with DPPH- or by the reduction of phosphomolybdenum complexes followed by UV-VIS-detection (Bandoniene and Murkovic, 2002 Cardenosa et al, 2002). A combination of HPLC and semi-automatic ORAC analysis has also been described (Caldwell, 2001). 

Gine et al. [29] has described a semi-automatic determination of manganese in plant digests using flow injection analysis. This technique utilises the introduction of the sample into a continuously flowing carrier stream of formaldoxime reagent. When injected, the sample is pushed by this stream and dispersed into the reagent stream, whereupon the required reaction takes place. The coloured complex is then carried into a spectrophotometric flow cell, where the absorbance is measured after an exactly defined time interval. 

EVALUATING THE SYSTEM. We are at present evaluating a system which combines the reaction classification approach with this semi-automatic site analysis. We are using the novel reactions as indicated in Index Chemicus and at the same time are evaluating the ICRS tapes as an automatic way of collecting the reaction and product infoimation. 

It was concluded from the analysis that blowdown response time was affected more by the attitude of the platform personnel toward the system than the reaction times of the system components. Therefore the implementation of semi or fully automatic blowdown on the platforms would not necessarily enhance performance unless the workers had support in terms of philosophy, training, procedures, and hardware reliability.
