Separations of polyhydric alcohols by gas-liquid chromatography are of interest in fields other than carbohydrate chemistry, and it is convenient to make brief mention of some of these applications. With the majority of alicyclic boron-capped iron(II) dioximates, neither template condensation nor recrystallization from organic solvents gave crystals suitable for X-ray analysis. A rate-controlled template condensation within several days yielded FeGx3(B0H)2 3H20 monocrystals, since the synthesis of this clathrochelate compound proceeds much more slowly than that of analogous complexes with nioxime and 4-methylnioxime [62, 63]. 

The major analytes in this category are the alicyclic compounds (alkaloids and terpenes) heterocyclic compounds (barbiturates, benzodiazapams, indole alkaloids, quinolines, nucleic acids, and nucleotides) aminoacids and peptides oligopeptides and proteins (globular, nucleo-, and lipo-) saccharides and polysaccharides and condensation products of saccharides with all the other analytes, e.g., glucuronides and gly-coproteins. Thus far, most analyses have been done on solid and solution forms of the drug substances. A few illustrations are reported in which CD was used in the direct analysis of biological extracts. 

Mass spectral analysis of the municipal refuse-derived oil ( ) identified only two long chain fatty acids with certainty however, not more than traces of aromatics were determined to be present. The manure-derived oil was found to be largely alicyclic hydrocarbon but contained heterocyclic nitrogen and alkyl phenollcs ( ). These claims of the saturated hydrocarbon nature of the oil products are at odds with the reported elemental analyses (see Table I). The low hydrogen to carbon ratios dictate that the oil products must contain a large fraction of aromatic or, at least, highly unsaturated compounds. 

Further increment rules for the calculation of 13C shieldings in various types of saturated and unsaturated compounds may be found elsewhere (11). In a totally mathematical approach, Wiberg and co-workers (407,408) analyzed data for 18 sets of aliphatic and alicyclic halides (X = F, Cl, Br, or I) by means of factor analysis.
