Peptides amyloid, soluble forms

Solanezumab is a monoclonal antibody raised against Ap13 28, recognizing an epitope in the core of the amyloid peptide, binding selectively to soluble Ap and with low affinity for the fAp form... [Pg.423]

A modified fragment of the amyloid -peptide, based on the sequence Aj6(16-20) extended with two amino acids, was also evaluated as a precursor of peptide nanotubes. While the peptide FFKLVFF, which is too hydrophobic to be soluble in water, forms fibrils in methanol, the peptide in which one of the FF residues is replaced by AA residues (AAKLVFF) is now soluble in both aqueous and nonaqueous solvents and self-assembles in methanol to give peptide nanotubes (Figure 13a). The results of these studies showed that the peptide forms /S-sheets that wrap helically to form the nanotubes. The nanotube wall comprises four wrapped j6-sheets. [Pg.1539]

Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, which over a period of time leads to dementia, of which it is the most common cause, accounting for 60-70% of cases. The disease is associated with an as yet unexplained build-up of extracellular proteins in the brain, including so-called tangles (deposits of the protein, tau) and plaques, formed by deposits of the amyloid-(3 peptide (Ap) [3, 4]. This peptide, in its soluble form or when aggregated into... [Pg.70]
