At this time, after more than 10 years of study, the question of whether the synthetic substrate assays are a viable substitute for the FT method monitoring remains unanswered. Most workers agree with the above request for a randomized, multicenter, blind clinical study to supply the necessary data. All results to date indicate, as expected, that there will not be a one-to-one correlation between these two functional assay systems and that new therapeutic levels will have to be carefully set for the specific amidolytic assay methods.
