Various lipases and esterases have been used for the enantioselective esterification of alcohols and hydrolysis of esters. For example, Burkholderia cepacia lipases (PS, Amano Enzyme Inc.) and Candida antarctica lipase (CAL, Novozymes) have been widely used for its wide substrate specificities, high activities and chemo, regio and enantioselectivities. Fundamentals and some selected applications are shown in this section. The origins and abbreviations of lipases introduced here are as follows. [Pg.235]

For the synthesis of optically active 74, we used lipase to achieve asymmetric hydrolysis of meso-diacetate A (Figure 4.7) to optically active monoacetate B. The stereochemical outcome of this asymmetric hydrolysis A B was known to be as depicted through many examples. Acetylation of meso-diol C afforded meso-diacetate D, which was treated with lipase AK provided by Amano Enzyme, Inc. The product was (5R,6S)-E, whose enantiomeric purity was 97% ee as analysed by HPLC of the corresponding 3,5-dinitrobenzoate on Chiralcel-OJ . Oxidation of E furnished F, which was converted to lactone (-)-G. [Pg.114]

Alkali refined soybean oil was obtained from ADM Packaged Oils, Decatur, IL and was used as received without ftirther purification. The Novozym 435 enzyme was obtained from Novozymes, Inc. The Amano enzymes were obtained as gifts from Amano Enzyme USA Co., IL. All other materials were acquired from Aldrich Chemical Company. [Pg.82]

The lipase used was isolated from Pseudomonas tluorescens and was commercially available from Amano International Enzyme Co., Inc. (Troy, VA) as a powder, specific activity 32,000 units/g (P-30). [Pg.6]
