Considerable progress has also been made with the alternative line of work, the search for a synthetic analgesic as effective as morphine and without its disadvantages. The work of the American Committee has shown that it is possible to produce analgesics with a dibenzofuran or carbazole nucleus in place of the phenanthrene or phcnanthrylene oxide nucleus of morphine and it is stated that synthetic products with analgesic potency equal to that of codeine have been prepared. In the 1938 report moderate analgesic potency was recorded for preparation No. 421, 9-methyl-2-(l-hydroxy-3-diethylamino)-propylcarbazole at 10 mgm. by injection. 

The lining sheet is prepared by calendering in thin plies up to 1 mm in thickness, followed by combining the individual layers on the calender to form a finished sheet, usually between 3 mm and 6 mm thick. Alternatively, lining sheet can be manufactured by the roller die process in which the sheet is extruded and then passed through rollers to give the finished thickness. Extrusion is also used for the preparation of unvulcanised rubber tubes suitable for lining pipes up to 200 mm in diameter. 

Another example of alternating line width effect was found in the spectra of durosemiquinone (6),9,10 where the effect is due to alkali metal ions hopping back and forth from one oxygen atom to the other. The rates depend on the alkali metal as shown in Table 5.3. 

There are many alternative lines of proof. Suppose that P is expressed in linear form. For each address k in P we add a new variable uk and construct a block of program as indicated. We let Ug Qp be a new variable and let 0 and 1 be constants.
