Allylic alcohols cyclization

Cyclization of (Z)-allylic alcohols. Cyclization of several (Z)-allylic alcohols to cyclohexenes and cycloheptenes has been observed with this complex in CH2CI2. Complexes of TiCU and 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine, VCU-CsHsNHCHs, and AlCls-CeHjNHCH, are less active than 1. [Pg.240]

Furthei-more, the cyclization of the iododiene 225 affords the si.x-membered product 228. In this case too, complete inversion of the alkene stereochemistry is observed. The (Z)-allylic alcohol 229 is not the product. Therefore, the cyclization cannot be explained by a simple endo mode cyclization to form 229. This cyclization is explained by a sequence of (i) e.vo-mode carbopallada-tion to form the intermediate 226, (ii) cydopropanation to form 227. and (iii) cyclopropylcarbinyl to homoallyl rearrangement to afford the (F3-allylic alcohol 228[166]. (For further examples of cydopropanation and endo versus e o cyclization. see Section 1.1.2.2.)... [Pg.161]

The cyclohexadiene derivative 130 was obtained by the co-cyclization of DMAD with strained alkenes such as norbornene catalyzed by 75[63], However, the linear 2 1 adduct 131 of an alkene and DMAD was obtained selectively using bis(maleic anhydride)(norbornene)palladium (124)[64] as a cat-alyst[65], A similar reaction of allyl alcohol with DMAD is catalyzed by the catalyst 123 to give the linear adducts 132 and 133[66], Reaction of a vinyl ether with DMAD gives the cyclopentene derivatives 134 and 135 as 2 I adducts, and a cyclooctadiene derivative, although the selectivity is not high[67]. [Pg.487]

Deamination of the corresponding amine gives the allylic alcohol resulting from iQ dride shift as the main product and an increased amount of the cyclization product. [Pg.323]

An example of the efficient formation of an electron-deficient double bond by RCM was disclosed by a Japanese group in a novel total synthesis of the macrosphelides A (209) and B (208) (Scheme 41) [100]. When the PMB-pro-tected compound 204 was examined as a metathesis substrate, the ring closure did not proceed at all in dichloromethane using catalysts A or C. When the reaction was carried out using equimolar amounts of catalyst C in refluxing 1,2-dichloroethane, the cyclized product 205 was obtained in 65% yield after 5 days. On the other hand, the free allylic alcohol 206 reacted smoothly at room temperature leading to the desired macrocycle 207 in improved yield. [Pg.308]

Although the unsaturated nitrile oxides 124 can be prepared via the aldoxime route (see Scheme 8), the older procedure suffers from the disadvantage that a tenfold excess of allyl alcohol and two additional steps are required when compared to Scheme 15. Therefore, unsaturated nitro ether 123 that can be prepared by condensation of an aldehyde 120 and a nitro alkane followed by Michael addition of alcohol 122, was a useful precursor to nitrile oxide 124 [381. The nitrile oxide 124 spontaneously cyclized to ether 125. This procedure is particularly suitable for the synthesis of tetrahydrofurans (125a-h) and tetrahydropyrans (125i-k) possessing Ar substituents in 72-95% yield (Table 12). The seven-membered ether 1251 was obtained only in 30% yield on high dilution. The acetylenic nitro ether 126 underwent INOC reaction to provide the isoxazole 127. [Pg.18]

The diacetal 629, prepared from the carbonyl compound and O-silylated allylic alcohols in the presence of TMSOTf 20, reacts with ( )-l-trimethylsilyl-2,4-penta-diene 630, in the presence of TMSOTf 20 in CH2CI2 at -78°C, to afford 60% 631 this undergoes Diels-Alder-cyclization at 170 °C in toluene to give a substituted... [Pg.112]

Benzaldehyde dimethyl acetal 121 reacts, for example, with the silylated allylic alcohol 645, in the presence of SnCl2-MeCOCl, via an intermediate analogous to 641, to the 3-methylenetetrahydrofuran 646 and methoxytrimethylsilane 13 a [182], whereas benzaldehyde dimethyl acetal 121 reacts with the silylated homoallylalco-hol 640 in the presence of TMSOTf 20 to afford exclusively the ds 4-vinyltetrahy-drofuran 647 and 13 a [183]. A related cyclization of an a-acetoxy urethane 648 containing an allyltrimethylsilane moiety gives the 3-vinylpyrrohdine 649 in 88% yield and trimethylsilyl acetate 142 [184, 185]. Likewise, methyl 2-formylamido-2-trimethylsilyloxypropionate reacts with allyltrimethylsilane 82 or other allyltri-methylsilanes to give methyl 2-formamido-2-aUyl-propionate and some d -unsatu-rated amino acid esters and HMDSO 7 [186] (Scheme 5.56). [Pg.114]

Polyene Cyclization. Perhaps the most synthetically useful of the carbo-cation alkylation reactions is the cyclization of polyenes having two or more double bonds positioned in such a way that successive bond-forming steps can occur. This process, called polyene cyclization, has proven to be an effective way of making polycyclic compounds containing six-membered and, in some cases, five-membered rings. The reaction proceeds through an electrophilic attack and requires that the double bonds that participate in the cyclization be properly positioned. For example, compound 1 is converted quantitatively to 2 on treatment with formic acid. The reaction is initiated by protonation and ionization of the allylic alcohol and is terminated by nucleophilic capture of the cyclized secondary carbocation. [Pg.864]

To be of maximum synthetic value, the generation of the cationic site that initiates cyclization must involve mild reaction conditions. Formic acid and stannic chloride are effective reagents for cyclization of polyunsaturated allylic alcohols. Acetals generate oxonium ions in acidic solution and can also be used to initiate the cyclization of... [Pg.864]

An intramolecular radical cyclization gives the cxo-cyclic compounds, which has been extensively used in the synthesis of cyclic compounds. Michael additions of allyl alcohols or propargy 1 alcohols to nitroalkenes and the subsequent treatment with tin radicals provide a useful method for the preparation of substituted furans (Eqs. 7.83 and 7.84).126... [Pg.210]

The rhodium-catalyzed intramolecular hydrosilylation of allylic alcohol derived silyl ethers has been described. Oxidative cleavage of the resulting cyclized hydrosilylation products affords a route to optically active diols (Scheme 28).129,130... [Pg.286]

Simple acetylenic allylic alcohols can be cyclized easily by tarf-butoxide, and since this base initiates prototropic shifts the vinylic link may.be E or Z such cyclizations proceed via exomethylene furans similar to 15.65 If necessary, UV irradiation can effect both the isomerization of an to a Z-alkene and the cyclization, leaving only the final adjustments to be made chemically.66 In a variation, methoxide plays the role of leaving group allowing very good yields to be attained (Scheme 10).67... [Pg.178]

In another variant of such reactions, the hemi-acetal 104, generated in situ by reaction of the corresponding allylic alcohol with acetaldehyde, undergoes cyclization in the presence of HgClOAc to afford the mercurated acetal 105.128 Under these conditions, the reaction leads to the jy -product with a high selectivity (dr > 10 1 Scheme 14). The same strategy has been applied iteratively for the stereoselective synthesis of natural products containing 1,3,5,7,9-pentaether chains.129... [Pg.437]

Trifluoroethylfurans can be obtained from (Z)-2-alkynyl-3-trifluoromethyl allylic alcohols 75 through palladium-catalyzed cyclization-isomerization procedures <00JOC2003>. [Pg.145]

Several examples of transition metal catalysis for the synthesis of piperidines appeared this year. Palladium catalyzed intramolecular urethane cyclization onto an unactivated allylic alcohol was described as the key step in the stereoselective synthesis of the azasugar 1-deoxymannojirimycin . A new synthetic entry into the 2-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane framework was accomplished through a palladium mediated intramolecular coupling of amine tethered vinyl halides and ketone enolates in moderate yields . A palladium catalyzed decarboxylative carbonylation of 5-vinyl... [Pg.253]

The very first example of the catalytic reductive cyclization of an acetylenic aldehyde involves the use of a late transition metal catalyst. Exposure of alkynal 78a to a catalytic amount of Rh2Co2(CO)12 in the presence of Et3SiH induces highly stereoselective hydrosilylation-cyclization to provide the allylic alcohol 78b.1 8 This rhodium-based catalytic system is applicable to the cyclization of terminal alkynes to form five-membered rings, thus complementing the scope of the titanocene-catalyzed reaction (Scheme 54). [Pg.524]

An interesting variant involves the use of an allylic alcohol as the alkene component. In this process, re-oxidation of the catalyst is unnecessary since the cyclization occurs with /Uoxygen elimination of the incipient cr-Pd species to effect an SN2 type of ring closure. Both five- and six-membered oxacycles have been prepared in this fashion using enol, hemiacetal, and aliphatic alcohol nucleophiles.439,440 With a chiral allylic alcohol substrate, the initial 7r-complexation may be directed by the hydroxyl group,441 as demonstrated by the diastereoselective cyclization used in the synthesis of (—)-laulimalide (Equation (120)).442 Note that the oxypalladation takes place with syn-selectivity, in analogy with the cyclization of phenol nucleophiles (1vide supra). [Pg.682]

Asymmetric cyclization was also successful in the rhodium-catalyzed hydrosilylation of silyl ethers 81 derived from allyl alcohols. High enantioselectivity (up to 97% ee) was observed in the reaction of silyl ethers containing a bulky group on the silicon atom in the presence of a rhodium-BINAP catalyst (Scheme 23).78 The cyclization products 82 were readily converted into 1,3-diols 83 by the oxidation. During studies on this asymmetric hydrosilylation, silylrhodation pathway in the catalytic cycle was demonstrated by a deuterium-labeling experiment.79... [Pg.832]

Zr-catalyzed enantio-selective intramolecular diene cyclizations with allylic alcohol and ether substrates afford carbocycles bearing quaternary carbon stereogenic centers the unexpected formation of the aldehyde product 19 is noteworthy. [Pg.187]
