4-Alkoxystilbazole complexes

Bruce and Thornton reported the first hyperpolarisability (f3) of chiral rhodium(I) and iridium(I) 4-alkoxystilbazole complexes via the technique of electric-field induced second harmonic generation (EFISH), and found values of about 24 x 10 Barbera et al. determined / ... [Pg.97]

Simpler examples generated 2 1 complexes from alkoxystilbazoles and 1,4-dihalotetrafluorobenzenes (16 and 17). [Pg.187]

Alkoxystilbazoles can react with a variety of silver salts, AgX, to yield the two-coordinate linear complexes (19). They show liquid crystalline behavior that strongly depends on the anion, the alkoxy chain length, and other substituents which may be present on the stilbazole.59-65... [Pg.926]

Our work with L-B films was carried out in collaboration with Dr. Tim Richardson of the Department of Physics at Sheffield University and started as a look-see experiment. The complexes studied were the Rh(I) and Ir(I) complexes of the simple alkoxystilbazoles illustrated in Fig. 6. Surprisingly, with these materials it was possible to form films of the materials with alkoxy chain lengths as short as pentyloxy, with very stable films being accessed with octyloxy chains (21). All of these depositions were Y-type, and linear increases in absorption were seen with successive depositions. As implied above, these are short chain... [Pg.167]

Alkoxystilbazoles fall into a sort of in-between scenario as the shorter homologues are non-mesomorphic, while the longer chain homologues show, typically between about 80-90°C, a crystal E and a smectic B phase (the latter over a very narrow range) [36]. However, examples of all chain lengths can be made mesomorphic on complexation to the right metal. [Pg.297]
