Alkoxyalkyl mercury compounds

When an alkene is treated with mercuric trifluoroacetate, Hg(02CCF3)2, in THF containing an alcohol, ROH, the product is an (alkoxyalkyl)mercury compound. Treating this product with NaBH4/HO results in the formation of an ether. [Pg.352]

Alkoxyalkyl and aryl mercury compounds appear to be quickly metabolized to inorganic mercury by biological systems. As a result, symptoms of intoxication are similar to those associated with inorganic mercury salts (Roberts et al. 1979, Pfab et al. 1996, Graeme and Pollack 1998). [Pg.972]
