Algorithms shape change

Shape change algorithms vary from simple analytical descriptions to a variety of numerical models of increasing sophistication. For example, numerical front tracking or string models [12, 62] and surface triangularization (3D-simulations [303])... 

In retrospect, this restriction was certainly necessary to develop the electrode shape change algorithms. 

In section 3.5.1 we discussed the current distribution in a Hull-cell. This cell has an obtuse and a sharp angle and is therefore an interesting sample problem to check the electrode shape change algorithm. 

Partially to check the electrode shape change algorithm and partially because the edge effect in itself is a fascinating phenomenon, we decided to perform experiments. For that purpose, the cell in which the current distributions were measured (section 3.6) was adapted. Also the electrolyte was slightly changed. 

The more desirable alternative is to use an adaptive numerical algorithm which changes and adapts the number and distribution of the gridpoints and the length of every time step dependent on the shape of the solution to achieve an user specified accuracy. This guarantees that the solution is not dependent on the used numerical solution method but only on the model equations considered.
