Alcohols amino, sphingosine-related

The relative stereochemistry of both 2-amino and 3-hydroxy groups in Leucetta-mols A and B, two antimicrobial lipids, has been defined by analysis of nuclear Overhauser enhancements in bis(oxazolone) 694, which was formed by treatment of 693 with GDI [459]. The absolute stereochemistry of sphingosine-related polyunsaturated 2-amino alcohols isolated from marine organisms as secondary metabolites was also assigned by transformation to the oxazolidin-2-one and examination of the NMR data [460]. [Pg.185]

Phosphoglycerides such as lecithin and cephatin are closely related to fats. The glycerol backbone in these molecules is esterified to two fatty acids (one saturated and one unsaturated) and to one phosphate ester, Sphingolipids, another major class of phospholipids, have an amino alcohol such as sphingosine for their backbone. These compounds are important constituents of cell membranes. [Pg.1142]

Lipids which contain sphingosine (trans-D-erythro-l,3-dihydroxy-2-amino-4-octadecene) or a related amino alcohol are known as sphingolipids. The commonest phospholipid in this class is the phosphoryl-choline ester of an A -acylsphingosine (or ceramide) which is more commonly called sphingomyelin ... [Pg.30]

Lipids containing sphingosine frans-i>-etythro, i-dihydToy.y-2-ammo-A-octadecene) or a related amino alcohol are of minor importance in plants. Cerebrosides, ceramide, and phytoglycolipid and related substances have... [Pg.15]
