Other metaflic complexes showing certain preference for aromatic versus aliphatic amino acids in the recognition process include lanthanide(lll) tris()8-diketonate) complexes, which extract Phe, Trp, Phg, and other aromatic guests from an aqueous phase to dichloromethane, with some degree of enantioselectivity, while Ala and Gly were rarely extracted. Nevertheless, the more hydrophobic aliphatic amino acid Leu was also extracted. Another recent example of enantioselective recognition is the case of the Zn-salophen receptor 42 described by Dalla Cort, which binds l- and o-Phe with a notable selectivity of KJKo = 9.6.
