Air-segmented analyser

Automatic air-segmented analysers are characterized by the use of one or several liquid streams (diluents, washing solutions, reagents) where the sequentially aspirated samples are introduced and spaced by means of air bubbles aimed at avoiding the undesirable carryover [26—28]. 

The segmented flow analyser, based on Skeggs original proposal [1], was the first automatic analyser dedicated to serial assays. The approach utilises air-segmented flowing streams and, in principle, permits the successful implementation of any manual protocol for wet chemical assays.
