Flammable Aerosols

Flammable The tenn refers to a chemical diat falls into one of the following categories (a) aerosol, flammable, (b) gas, flammable, (c) liquid, flammable, (d) solid flammable. [Pg.236]

Other Propellants. Dimethyl ether (DME) [115-10-6] is finding use as an aerosol propeUant. DME is soluble in water, as shown in Table 5. Although this solubiHty reduces DME s vapor pressure in aqueous systems, the total aerosol solvent content may be lowered by using DME as a propeUant. The chief disadvantage is that DME is flammable and must be handled with caution. [Pg.348]

The law requires nonessential products releasing Class 1 chemicals to be banned within 2 years of enactment. In 1994 a ban wiU go into effect for aerosols and non-insulating foam using Class II chemicals, with exemptions for flammability and safety. Regulations for this purpose will be required within one year of enactment, to become effective tv o vears afterwards. [Pg.404]

Toxic, flammable/explosive, reactive, unstable Liquid, solid (briquette, flake, powder), gas, vapour, ah-borne particulate (including mist, fume, froth, aerosol, dust)... [Pg.45]

LPG is considered to be non-toxic witli no chronic effects, but the vapour is slightly anaesthetic. In sufficiently high concentrations, resulting in oxygen deficiency, it will result in physical asphyxiation. The gases are colourless and odourless but an odorant or stenching agent (e.g. methyl mercaptan or dimethyl sulphide) is normally added to facilitate detection by smell down to approximately 0.4% by volume in air, i.e. one-fifth of the lower flammable limit. The odorant is not added for specific applications, e.g. cosmetic aerosol propellant. [Pg.288]

Preparations packed in aerosol dispensers shall be classified as flammable in accordance with Part III of this schedule. " Substances shall be classified as very toxic, toxic or harmful in accordance with the additional criteria set out in... [Pg.452]

An aerosol which is flammable in accordance with paragraph 2 or Part III of Schedule 1 shall have the classification of a flammable gas. Other aerosols need not be classified as flammable gas or flammable liquid. [Pg.455]

The catalyst is formed by reaction of HF on SbClj. The Freons have a unique combination of properties which make them ideally suited for use as refrigerants and aerosol propellants. They have low bp, low viscosity, low surface tension and high density, and are non-toxic, non-flammable, odourless, chemically inert and thermally stable. The most commonly used is CF2CI2, bp, —29.8°. The market for Freons... [Pg.304]

Preparations packed in aerosol dispensers shall be classified as flammable in accordance w ith Part III of this schedule. [Pg.314]

True. Most aerosols contain flammable gas under high pressure. They can also explode if burnt, even when apparently empty. [Pg.91]

Assume that the aerosol contains a liquid of flammability equivalent to that of petrol and treat it as such. [Pg.445]

The key point here is to determine if flammable or combustible materials are being processed under conditions of temperature and pressure such that, if a release occurs, a significant quantity of the material may be released into the air as either a gas, vapor, mist, or aerosol. If such conditions are present, the user should assume that the potential for a vapor cloud explosion exists. Otherwise, VCE hazards can be ignored. [Pg.18]
