Advantages and Disadvantages of Extraction-Exclusion Devices

Compared to other types of Auger suppressed photodetectors, extraction devices have the lowest dark currents. This means a number of their advantages over other types. Their operation is far from the hot carrier region, the level of g-r processes is lower, the problems with the stmcture heating are less pronounced. These devices are able to operate at relatively largest temperatures. [Pg.196]

Extraction diodes are the most advanced of all nonequilibrium detectors. The fabrication of these detectors is fully compatible with standard narrow-bandgap semiconductor technologies and with standard detector circuitry. Their function does not cause interference with surrounding circuitry, as is the case with magnetoconcentration devices. [Pg.196]

The most serious problem with extraction detectors at this time is their 1/f noise. The knee frequency of these devices is very high and reaches 20 MHz to 100 MHz. Large efforts have been directed to its investigation [391, 392], but currently the topic stiU remains an open issue. [Pg.196]
