Adenylic 2-deoxy

Nucleotides are named by adding a term denoting the number of phasphate groups (and their position) to the name of the nucleoside e.g. adenosine 5-monophosphate, AMP (or adenylate). In general, nucleotides are assumed to be ribonucleotides unless the prefix deoxy (or d- as abbreviation) is used. (See Figures 20.5 and 20.6)... 

This property naturally influences their biological activities. For example, it has been reported that poly(2 -deoxy-2 -a-fluoroadenylic acid) (69a) is as good a template as poly(adenylic acid) (68a) for some reverse transcriptases and DNA polymerase [91]...

ACG indicates that the unliiiked 5 -OH group is on deoxy adenylate, whereas the unlinked 3 - OH group is on deoxyguanylate. Because of this polarity, ACG and GCA correspond to different compounds.

Figure 2 indicates the broadening of the resonance of the deoxy forms of adenylic add (5 AMP) and thymidylic acid (5 TMP) as a result of complexation. At the top are the resonance peaks (A and C, respectively) in the absence of metal ions, and at the bottom are the resonance peaks (B and D, respectively) in the presence of added copper ions (i). This type of study indicates binding of copper to the phosphate.
