The adamantyl carbonate is prepared from Adoc2C03 (DMAP, CH3CN, >79% yield) or, in the case of electron-deficient phenols, the fluoroformate (THF, Pyr, 54-95% yield). It is somewhat more stable to TFA than the adamantyl carbamate. [Pg.281]

Many carbamates have been used as protective groups. They are arranged in this chapter in order of increasing complexity of stmcture. The most useful compounds do not necessarily have the simplest stmctures, but are /-butyl (BOC), readily cleaved by acidic hydrolysis benzyl (Cbz or Z), cleaved by catalytic hy-drogenolysis 2,4-dichlorobenzyl, stable to the acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of benzyl and /-butyl carbamates 2-(biphenylyl)isopropyl, cleaved more easily than /-butyl carbamate by dilute acetic acid 9-fluorenylmethyl, cleaved by /3-elimination with base isonicotinyl, cleaved by reduction with zinc in acetic acid 1-adamantyl, readily cleaved by trifluoroacetic acid and ally], readily cleaved by Pd-catalyzed isomerisation. [Pg.316]

To verify such a steric effect a quantitative structure-property relationship study (QSPR) on a series of distinct solute-selector pairs, namely various DNB-amino acid/quinine carbamate CSPpairs with different carbamate residues (Rso) and distinct amino acid residues (Rsa), has been set up [59], To provide a quantitative measure of the effect of the steric bulkiness on the separation factors within this solute-selector series, a-values were correlated by multiple linear and nonlinear regression analysis with the Taft s steric parameter Es that represents a quantitative estimation of the steric bulkiness of a substituent (Note s,sa indicates the independent variable describing the bulkiness of the amino acid residue and i s.so that of the carbamate residue). For example, the steric bulkiness increases in the order methyl < ethyl < n-propyl < n-butyl < i-propyl < cyclohexyl < -butyl < iec.-butyl < t-butyl < 1-adamantyl < phenyl < trityl and simultaneously, the s drops from -1.24 to -6.03. In other words, the smaller the Es, the more bulky is the substituent. The obtained QSPR equation reads as follows ... [Pg.22]

There are five papers on carbamate chemistry of interest.6,84-87 The mechanism of the reaction in MeCN of /V-mcthyI-/V-phcnyIcarbamoyI chlorides (94) with benzyl-amines is believed to be Sf2 based on Hammett p values, a cross-interaction constant pxy of —0.14, ka/ko values for the /V-dcutcriatcd benzylamines all <1, and low activation enthalpies.84 The aminolysis of /7-nitrophcnyl /V-phenylcarbamatcs in acetonitrile involving the T1 (7) was discussed earlier.6 Solvolysis-decomposition of N- -adamantyl-/V-/7-tolylcarbamoyl chloride (95) in hydroxylic solvents involves a facile slow ionization (SWl mechanism) giving a cation which eliminates ArNCO to... [Pg.51]
