I now see that the acquisition of knowledge and skills is only valid if these can be used for some really useful purpose that s what I want to do now. ... 

Despite the novel positive acquisitions of knowledge from experimental and theoretical studies of gas-phase elemental mercury chemistry there are still large gaps before a complete imderstanding of the fate of mercury in the atmosphere is obtained. It is essential to provide kinetic data and information about formed products. There are some limited studies on the kinetics of gas-phase elemental mercury oxidation on surfaces [68-70]. However, experimental studies on uptake or kinetics of heterogeneous reactions of mercury on various environmentally relevant surfaces such as ice, snow, and aerosols and biomaterials, are needed. 

Up to this point, we have discussed sources of data and means of manipulating and comparing data elements (in terms of sequences, alignments, gene families, etc.), but the end point of all this analytical process must be the acquisition of knowledge. There has been a recent tendency to divide memory (and the knowledge stored therein) into two parts, procedural and declarative. Consequently, any discussion of learning - as the acquisition of knowledge - needs to address this distinction. 

Thus we can see that the three elements of training described earlier must be interrelated the acquisition of knowledge in the sciences the foundation in education and teaching methods and practice. The relative importance attached to the three parts and degree of integration between them varies from country to country. 

Probably the most common educational objective is acquisition of knowledge. Knowledge, as defined here, involves the recall of specifics and universals, the recall of methods and processes or the recall of a pattern, structure or setting.

Traditional philosophical theories of knowledge, including those of Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Spinoza, and Locke, were about the acquisition of knowledge and, more specifically, about methods for acquiring knowledge. PK/PD knowledge creation via data supplementation results in the further acquisition of knowledge beyond that embedded in one s data. When data supplementation for PK/PD knowledge creation is implemented, the result is a greatly improved understanding of the response surface because of the knowledge created. This in turn leads to efficient design studies. 

The basic approach in such a curriculum is disciplinary and emphasises the acquisition of knowledge or information. The role of teacher is that of a dominant teacher in such a curriculum. 

Of course, this situation has implications for education, or to put it another way, the knowledge industry. The acquisition of knowledge should be and can be shorter in the time it takes and less expensive in cost. This book is part of that knowledge industry, as are the classes the writers of this book teach. 

As such, their values can be modified through improved knowledge acquired by means of some measurements. To account for this conclusion without contradicting the requirements imposed by the second law of thermodynamics, Szillard (5), and later on Brillouin (6) and others, advanced the view that acquisition of knowledge requires expenditure of work. Then they showed that increase in availability (or decrease in entropy) is more than offset by the work expended in obtaining better knowledge through measurement.
