Aconitum variegatum

The structure of cammaconine, isolated from plants of Aconitum variegatum, has been revised to (50) on the basis of the 13C n.m.r. data.9 Mollov and co-workers13 had assigned structure (51) to cammaconine from the results of a chemical correlation with isotalatizidine (52) and XH n.m.r. and mass-spectral analyses. Cammaconine is therefore identical with the hydrolysis product of aconorine (53), isolated from Aconitum orientate Mill.14... 

Cammaconine, an alkaloid of Aconitum variegatum, has been shown to contain three hydroxy-groups, two methoxy-groups, and an iV-ethyl group, on the basis of n.m.r. evidence.18 Methylation of cammaconine afforded 1,8,14-tri-O-methyliso-talatizidine (18). This reaction demonstrates that cammaconine possesses the same skeleton, oxygen location, and stereochemistry as isotalatizidine, but a different pattern of O-methylation.
