A Name for the New Metal

The element names tungsten and wolfram rapidly gained a foothold in their respective geographical areas. When the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry addressed the question inl960 it was shown that tungsten, tungstme and tungstato are so well established in the different countries that the name wolfram cannot replace them. 

In aU countries the symbol for the element tungsten or wolfram is, however, W in accordance with Berzehus original proposal.
