SEARCH Articles Figures Tables Hysteresis Experiments. The dynamic behavior of a 30-16-1-13 monolayer at the air 5 ppm aqueous interface was studied at two different speeds, 3.17 cm min and 0.353 cm min, and is shown in Figure 6. These may be compared with the theoretical curves in Figures 2 and 3. Comparing the tt-A curves at these two speeds, we found that the surface pressure was not only a function of area, but also of speed, especially in the high compression regions. The results indicate that the rates of desorption and readsorption, a, of HM-HEC 30-16-1-13 are of somewhat the same order of magnitude as the rates of compression and expansion we employed. At slow speeds, during compression the adsorbed 30-16-1-13 molecules have much more time to reorient themselves and in expansion, some of the desorbed segments can be readsorbed, possibly along with molecules from the bulk solution.
