In 1902, British physician George Still became the first scientist to describe the condition we know today as ADHD. In a report before the Royal College of Medicine, Still described a group of children with behavioral problems he had studied. His theory was that the children s hyperactivity and aggression was caused by an injury to the brain, a hypothesis that turned out to be incorrect.

In 1918, the British prepared for the American Expeditionary Force a series of color drawings and descriptions of injuries caused by chemical warfare agents. This drawing depicts a severely burned eye in the acute stage after exposure to mustard vapor. A portion of the original description follows

In 1965 an extensive test was conducted by the U.S. Navy s Sealab II to assay man s ability to live and work in ocean depths for long periods of time. For forty-five days three groups of ten men each lived fifteen-day periods in a 57 ft. x 12 ft. habitat at a depth of 188 m one half mile off La Jolla, Calif. Plastic parts as well as other materials were used to provide a highly successful experiment.

In 1969, Bird investigated the ratio between near hits, property damage, minor, and major injuries.

In 1986, Ford employees created buckle-up activators for display at Ford World Headquarters.

In 1998, Cotton reported the first dinuclear Pd, obtained by oxidation of 42 with PhIClj

In 2000, 4 of White youths aged 12 to 17 used inhalants. This is more than twice the number of Black youths of the same age who used inhalants.

In 2002 tests, extracts from roots protected the experimental twigs better than extracts from tops. But solvent was as active as root extracts. Units removed

In 3 catalyzed direct conversion of carbonyl compounds to corresponding chlorides.

In 4H-SIC, an oxidation rate on sidewalls of the trench is almost five times higher than that on the Si-face on the bottom.

In a 1-d system, x has a singularity atq 2kf. This singularity does not exist in 2-d- and 3-d systems. From , Chap. 2.

In a batch reactor the maximum cell production depends on the limiting mechanism.

In a bottle of fizzy drink, carbon dioxide is partitioned between the gas and the solution phases

In a carbonyl group the tr-orbital is distorted towards the more electronegative oxygen atom. This gives the group a negative dipole towards the oxygen atom. When a -ir-Tr transition takes place, an electron enters the rr -orbital which has more electron density over the carbon atom. Therefore, during excitation the dipole changes.

In a cell used for electroanalytical measurements there are always three electrodes immersed in an electrolyte solution , which is usually deoxygenated by passage of an inert gas prior to the beginning of the measurement. The working electrode is the electrode at which the electrochemical process being investigated takes place. The reference electrode is the electrode with a constant potential that is used as the reference standard against which the potentials of the other electrodes in the cell are measured. Finally the auxiliary electrode serves as a sink for electrons so that current can be passed from the external circuit through the cell. Note that the sample is not stirred during the measurement, and hence only material near the electrode surface is reduced or oxidised. This enables the experiment to be repeated many times as fresh reactants diffuse to the electrode from the bulk solution.

In a cell, the link between oxidation of fuel molecules, the electron transport chain, the supply of ATP, and work done by the cell, e.g., a contractile muscle cell.

In a circular convolution, the. signal i.s wrapped around to avoid the problem of an impulse response that is too long at the edges of the signal.

In a classic experiment, Roberts et al. demonstrated the involvement of 4 in the nucleophilic aromatic substitution by isotopic labeling experiments. The product distribution can only be explained by the assumption of a symmetric intermediate.

In a common implementation of the vapor diffusion method of biopolymer crystallization, a single drop of biopolymer solution hangs above a reservoir solution that is very concentrated in a nonvolatile solute. Solvent evaporates from the more dilute drop until the vapor pressure of water in the closed container reaches a constant equilibrium value.

In a complex consisting of two , the NMR spectra could be consider-

In a compound pump, the gas is compressed in two stages. First, the gas is compressed in the larger low pressure section and then transferred through the cross-over and internal passageways to be compressed in the smaller, high pressure stage. Used by permission

In a covalently linked too-component system F1 M, an eT process from the donor subunit M to the nearby photo-excited fragment FI induces a drastic rearrangement of solvent molecules around the Fl M ion pair .

In a crystal with two molecules in the unit cell, a molecular state splits into two Davydov bands. The dimer levels, which are split by the energy 21- 2, are further shifted energetically by their interaction with translationally-equivalent molecules in the crystal. The splitting then becomes 2 4 12 in the case of 4 nearest translationally-inequivalent neighbours and interactions

In a curarized preparation which blocks the early IPSP, stimulation of Lj q at 15 sec between arrows produces a late synaptic potential in L3 which in this cell reverses at -76 mV.

In a curved interface, surface tension generates a net force normal to the surface. This must be balanced by a pressure difference across the interface .
