Siloxy dienes have been shown to be highly effective in both the Diels-Alder reaction and the hetero Diels-Alder (diene-aldehyde cyclocondensation) reactions. Diene 3 has been used in the synthesis of several important naturai products including zincophorin, rifamycin, and the Prelog-Djerassi laclone.
