Iodine Speciation in the Liquid Phase of Soil Yamaguchi et al. (2006) further investigated iodine sorption behavior in relation to by determining the speciation of the element in Japanese paddy field soils subject to oxic and anoxic conditions brought about by irrigation management. These workers observed the disappearance of added lOj from anoxic soils as 1 concentrations in soil solution increased, i.e., the transformation from oxic to anoxic... [Pg.110]

The phenomena that we will be interested in have the common feature that they occur far from equilibrium. A useful way of thinking about this issue, suggested by Yamaguchi [4], is to distinguish between self-assembled structures and dissipative structures, which arise via self-organization. The former, crystals for example, arise under equilibrium or near-equihbrium conditions. The latter, the subject of our inquiry, are found far from equilibrium [5]. Table 2.1 summarizes the differences. [Pg.6]
