Iodine and bromine NQR studies on the complexes MX2L2 (M = Zn, Cd or Hg L = nitrogen heterocycle) show that the covalency of the M—L bond decreases in the order Cd>Zn> Hg.482 NMR, X-ray photoelectron studies and extended Hiickel calculations on HgCl2py2 indicate a moderate amount of electron transfer to the metal from pyridine relative to ZnCl2py2 filled mercury d orbitals do not participate in bonding.483... [Pg.952]

A complementary view is given by X-ray photoelectron studies which provide evidence for hydrogen bond formation as well as preferential attachment by one or two nitrogen atoms per cyanine molecule to the hydroxyl groups in the substrates. In the thiacarbocyanine case, hydrogen bond formation was detected for microcrystalline cellulose and /S-cyclodextrin cases which involved the sulphur atom of the cyanine. [Pg.346]

The electronic structures of a number of actinide systems have been determined in detail by microscopic experiments and detailed calculations. For example. Fig. 19.4 shows experimental results of an x-ray photoelectron study [20] of several U systems, where the narrow Sf band at, or near, Epis clearly seen. Recent studies with various energies of incident photons have made it possible to separate the contributions to valence-region spectra into the component orbital-angular-momentum contributions [21]. Recent discussions of the theoretical and experimental details of actinide electronic structure are available [22-26]. [Pg.520]
