Why Help

The only way to have a sense of safety about whether they ll repeat self-harm is understanding why they did it and helping them understand why. Help them to tell you. For example, if someone s been cutting, but says they don t know why they did it, help them return to the state of mind when the act took place. Start concrete, e.g.
