What Is a Portable Container

A portable container is a container used to transfer a hazardous chemical from a labeled container and is irrtended only for the immediate use of the employee who performs the transfer. 

OSHA says that immediate use means the chemical in the portable container can only be used by the employee who transfers it from a labeled container and must be used on that work shift. 

Any remaining chemical in an unlabeled portable container may not be passed along to another employee to use. 

Portable containers do not have to be labeled, unless the container and its contents are passed along to another employee.
