In the patients with ALPE, plain CT of the kidney (delayed CT) a few hours, 24 h, and 48 h after the administration of 40 ml contrast medium showed wedge-shaped contrast enhancement. When physicians hesitate to administer a contrast medium, patchy accumulation can be sometimes detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with gadolinium-diethylenetriaminopentoacetic acid (Gd-DTPA), bone scan with MDP, or ultrasonography with Levovist. 

Multidimensional NMR techniques with pulse field gradient (PFG) enhancement have been applied to study l , 2" and 3" generation polyurethane dendritic wedges, which are a novel type of linking element in the convergent approach to dendrimer synthesis. By using PFG- HMQC and HMBC 2D NMR experiments, H and C resonance assignments have been obtained for these compounds, and structure proofs have been accomplished. 

About 150 mg of each sample (1 , 2" and 3 generation wedges(41 was dissolved in 0.7mL deuterated acetone in a 5 mm NMR tube for NMR studies. NMR spectra were obtained on a Varian Vnityplus 750 MHz NMR spectrometer equipped with four RF chatmels, a Performa II z axis pulse field gradient (PPG) accessory, and a Varian H/ C/ P/ H foin chapel triple resonance probe with a PFG coil. Acetone-de was also used as internal references for both H (2.05 ppm) and C (29.92 ppm) chemical shifts. All experiments were performed at 25.0 0.1 °C. All data were processed with Varian s VNMR software on a SUN Ultra-10 workstation.

Note that both the saddles and nodes appearing inside the resonant wedge (called Arnold tongue, sometimes) lie on the invariant curve (stable if Li < 0 or unstable if L >0). Since the only stable invariant curve that can go through a saddle is its unstable manifold, and since the only unstable curve that can also go through a saddle is its stable manifold, it follows that inside the resonance zone the invariant curve is the union of the separatrices of saddles (imstable separatrices if Li < 0, or stable separatrices if L > 0) that terminate at the nodes. 

Inside the resonant wedge all trajectories on the invariant torus tend to a stable periodic orbit, which means that the dominating regimes here is a periodic one. Outside the wedge either a quasiperiodic regime or a periodic one of a very long period is established on the torus. Both are practically indistinguishable.
