Wavy plates

The plates can be straight or wavy. Wavy plates, due to their greater surface area, enhance the heat transfer between air and the plates but are unsuitable in dusty environments. [Pg.698]

Several manufacturers supply units wiLh "wavy plates" which force several direction chenges in series (Fig. 3.2-11). Chan an spacing may vary from a fraction of an inch to 6-8 in. Devices with fonr bends are common with channel spacing of 2-3 in. The best separation efficiency is obtained in the range of 7-20 fl/s bulk velocity with a pressure drop in die mege of 0.05-0.15 in. H20. Vendors shonld be consulted for actual performance data. These devices are limited to about 5% liquid by weight, and they can handle some entrained solids with the liquid flushing away collected solids.
