NOTE It may be dangerous for people who have certain cardiovascular problems to perform isometric types of exercise (those which cause both the buildup of tension and the constriction of blood vessels in muscles) because these activities tend to raise the blood pressure. For example, pushups, knee bends, weight lifting, and similar activities have isometric components, whereas such activities as running and walking are basically nonisometric in nature. [Pg.553]
