Volt-ampere reactive

Reactive power, volt-amperes-reactive. Quality assurance. 

The individual loads may be known to have diversity from their nameplate values. If this is the case then the diversity should be included in the estimation of the consumed power. The total load is estimated by adding together the continuous loads, a nominal proportion of the intermittent loads e.g. 30 to 50%, and a small proportion of the standby loads e.g. zero to 10%. The summation shonld be carried out in two parts, the first part for the active power and the second part for the reactive power. This is necessary because not all the loads in a group have the same power factor. Once these two totals are estimated the total volt-amperes can be found and then the cnrrent. 

Reactive Power - The electrical power that oscillates between the magnetic field of an inductor and the electrical field of a capacitor. Reactive power is never converted to non-electrical power. Calculated as the square root of the difference between the square of the kilovoltamperes and the square of the kilowatts. Expressed as reactive volt-amperes. 

VAR (var). A unit of reactive power. The. reactive power at the por t of entry of a single-phase two-wire circuit when the product of (a) the rms (root mean square) value in amperes of the sinusoidal current, (b) the rms value in volts of the voltage, and (c) the sine of the angular phase difference by which the voltage leads the current is equal to J.
