Of the 12 bisindole alkaloids isolated earlier ° from Voacanga thouarsii three [vobtusine, vobtusine lactone, and subsessiline (amataine)] were already known. Four more of these alkaloids, also related to vobtusine (253), have now been identified. Of these Alkaloid A exhibits spectra very similar to those of vobtusine, except that the i.r. spectrum contains an additional carbonyl band at 1650 cm due... 

Ibogamine-Cleavamine Group. Voacangine has been isolated from Pandaca retusa seeds and leaves and trunk bark and from Voacanga thouarsii. The seeds of Pandaca retusa also have coronaridine, the leaves and bark also... 

Tabersonine has been reportedly found in plants belonging to Apocynaceae, e.g., Amsonia tabernaemontana, Amsonia sinensis, Voacanga thouarsii, and Melodinus reticulatus, apart from C. roseus. Tabersonine is extracted from voacanga seeds for commercial purposes [10-12] (Fig. 20.5b).
