Vinylbenzylphosphonic acid

The first PA monomers to be included in dental materials were vinylphos-phonic acid (VPA) and 4-vinylbenzylphosphonic acid (VBPA). Anbar et al. demonstrated that the incorporation of VBPA in a dental composite resulted in an increase of the bonding strength of the material to enamel. Moreover, the precoating of enamel by VPA and VBPA led to enhanced adhesion. [Pg.170]

Diethyl vinylbenzylphosphonate has been homopolymerised via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) to obtain poly(diethyl vinylbenzylphosphonate), which was hydrolyzed to obtain the acid derivative (Scheme 13.Ib). The proton conductivity of poly(vinylbenzylphosphonic acid) was measured both at dry conditions between 20 and 160 °C and in an atmosphere with a defined RH. Under dry conditions, the polymer exhibited a proton conductivity with a linear dependence on temperature, and reached... [Pg.294]

Statistical copolymers from diisopropyl p-vinylbenzylphosphonate and 4-vinylpyridine were prepared via ATRP. The resulting copolymers were hydrolyzed to obtain acid derivatives (Scheme 13.1c). The proton conductivity of a copolymer containing 90 mol% 4-vinylpyridine was investigated at 25 °C under varying RH. The proton conductivity rose by several orders of magnitude with increasing water content. At 60% RH, the proton conductivity reached 10 mS cm at 25 °C. [Pg.296]
