Soon after the discovery of the traditional host-guest properties of the res-orcin[4]arene capsule, it became evident that this capsule represents an ideal supramolecular structure for several applications in homogeneous catalysis. Its use in catalysis is spurred by the simple and accessible synthesis of the monomer combined with the formation of a very large cavity that is a feature extremely difficult to find in other structures.
