Zolpidem Venlafaxine

During the course of a study of the salts formed by saccharin with quinine, haloperidol, mirtazapine, pseudoephedrine, lamivudine, risperidone, sertraline, venlafaxine, zolpidem, and amlodipine, a 1 1 cocrystal of saccharin and piroxicam was detected [68]. In the crystal structure, the asymmetric unit was found to consist of one saccharin molecule and one zwitterionic piroxicam molecule that were linked by two sets of N—H O hydrogen bonds. The piroxicam-saccharin synthons were in turn linked through bridging C—H O hydrogen bonds. Interestingly, the drug substance solubility out of the cocrystal was found to be comparable to that of the marketed piroxicam product.

In a recent open clinical trial, patients receiving venlafaxine XR or fluoxetine for six weeks without sleep improvement were randomly assigned to either mirtazapine (7.5 mg) or zolpidem (10 mg). Although both groups improved in terms of their sleep, the patients with either fluoxetine or venlafaxine had a more rapid... 

Visual hallucinations have been seen in one patient given zolpidem and venlafaxine. No important interaction normally appears to occur between venlafaxine and alprazolam or diazepam. The pharmacokinetics of duloxetine were not affected by lorazepam or temazepam. 

However, a pharmacodynamic interaction may occur. Hallucinations have been seen with zolpidem alone, and they have also occurred, rarely, when zolpidem and some benzodiazepines were given with the SSRIs , (below), which are related to venlafaxine. However, adverse effects such as these seem rare and the concurrent use of these drugs need not be avoided, but bear this possible interaction in mind if hallucinations occur.
