Vanadium complexes halides

Halides (chloride, in particular) also react promptly with surface OH groups, as has been shown for [W(=CCMe3)Cl3(dme)] and several inorganic oxides (silica, alumina, silica-alumina, niobia) [5-7]. The same was observed for the reaction of [V(=0)Cl3] with silica in this case, using a large excess of the vanadium complex, one mole of HCl is released per mole of grafted vanadium [8]. 

Complexes [VL3]X2 (L = en, 1,2-diaminopropane, 1,3-diaminopropane X = C1, Br, I) and [V(dien)2]X2 were prepared by mixing ethanolic solutions of amine and of vanadium(II) halide. The magnetic moments (3.66-3.91 BM) and electronic spectra were typical of octahedral vanadium(II) and there was no halogen coordination.65...

Several solvated vanadium(III) halides have been described in the previous sections and those with water, alcohol, acetonitrile or THF have been useful starting materials for the synthesis of vanadium(III) complexes. 

Only three general reviews on vanadium(IV) complexes have been given 355-357 others deal with subnormal magnetic complexes,358 ESR spin probes,354 vanadium(IV) halides,6 optical spectra and phosphorus donor ligands,359 vanadium porphyrins128 and annual reviews for 1979, 1980 and 1981.
