Valoneoyl unit

High-field NMR spectral analyses including a variety of two-dimensional techniques are the most powerful tools for the structural determination of oligomers. The H- and C-NMR spectra provide useful information on the nature and number of polyphenolic acyl units, e.g. galloyl, HHDP, DHHDP, valoneoyl units and others, and on the substitution modes of glucose residues. 

The DOG-type units are also subdivided into their meta and para variants. In these units, a HHDP unit is O-C-linked to a G unit. The /n-DOG type unit that is also referred to as the valoneoyl unit is found in numerous oligomeric eUagitannins [21], as well as in some monomeric eUagitannins such as the aforementioned type-111+ mallotusinic acid (19).
