Validity of the Young equation

The simplicity of Young s equation (Equation 4.1) is only apparent and somewhat deceiving as only two of the four properties can be measured directly, the contact angle and the liquid surface tension (, yi). Actually, there are only a few cases where all four properties of the Young equation have been independently measured (Israelachvili, 1985). For example, for
