Four lignans isolated from the roots of Valeriana officinalis (Valeria-naceae) were identified as (+)-l-hydroxypinoresinol, (+)-pinore-sinol-P-D-glucoside, (+)-pinoresinol and (-)-prinsepiol. They were tested as potential ligands of the 5-HTiA-, GABAa-, benzodiazepin- and a-opioid-receptors, but only (+)-l-hydroxypinoresinol showed affinity for the 5-HTiA-receptor, with an IC50 of 2.3 (iM [310],...
