This is subsequently converted to the fully conjugated material after film deposition, usually by heating under vacuum or in acidic vapor. As an example of this, we show in Fig. 6, the tetrahydrothiophene precursor route [50] to poly(pflrfl-phenyleneviny-lene) (PPV) and note that the final stage of the reaction (indicated by the bold arrows) is carried out once the thin film of the precursor polymer has been deposited. The precursor route strategy has not been extensively applied to oligomers. [Pg.412]
