Use of Chemical Procedures

These consist of the removal of the sialic acid by acid hydrolysis, or the half sulphate ester group by treatment with methanolic hydrogen chloride. 

1) The potential extraction of glycoproteins under the conditions used. 

2) All reagents and glassware must be at 80 °C before commencing the hydrolysis, otherwise hydrolysis may be incomplete (Culling et al. 1974 b).
