Urate Deposits without Gouty Arthritis

Case 6 is of related interest. His attacks of podagra ceased abruptly with the onset of classical polyarticular seropositive rheumatoid arthritis, although hyperuricaemia and a crystal-proven tophus on the ear were demonstrated several years later. 

Case 7 is also of particular interest. Arthroscopy and synovial biopsy in a patient with S.L.E., who had a mild chronic synovitis but no history of acute arthritis, showed, unexpectedly, urate crystal deposition.
