Uneven heat balance

Extremely fast heating imposes the biggest limitation on this technique, because the energy can be unevenly deposited in the sample due to strong contributions from the skin-effect. The inability to balance pressure differences on a microsecond timescale commonly leads to strong pressure gradients within the sample and the strong electrical forces can cause severe electrical and hydrodynamic instabilities. [Pg.304]
